The passage of House Bill 657, which became law effective July 15, 2026, requires the board to conduct criminal background checks on new applicants by means of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check. The board has filed the appropriate paperwork to be authorized to receive this information from the FBI and does not have an estimated response time. The board is aware that this is causing applications filed on or after July 15 to be delayed and is actively reviewing all potential solutions. See KRS 334A.055 for more information.
