The Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology administers and enforces the statutory authority and monitors the needs of the consuming public. The board examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of speech-language pathology and audiology. It recommends appropriate changes in the law to assure fairness and equality. The board conducts formal hearings when necessary and prosecutes by due process any violators of KRS 334A.

Kentucky law KRS 334A.055 requires the Kentucky Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology to conduct criminal background checks on new applicants by means of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check.
